Clouds of soft pink flowers on slender wands, opening a few at a time from deeper buds so there’s always something coming — the effect is a low, shimmering haze rather than a hard block of colour. More compact than the taller gauras, which makes this one genuinely good in a pot by the door or along the front of a border where the tall sorts would flop. In flower for months, and untroubled by a dry summer.

A perennial, too — plant once and the clump will return and grow stronger each year.
